Tape / float and texture

The tape and float process is crucial for achieving a professional and seamless look for drywall installations, ensuring that joints and seams are well-hidden and the wall or ceiling surface appears smooth and continuous. There are several different types of tape and float finishes, each with its own purpose and technique. Here are some common types:

Level 4 Finish

This is a higher level of drywall finish that involves applying multiple layers of joint compound and sanding between coats to achieve a very smooth, almost paint-ready surface. It's typically used in areas with critical lighting or when a perfectly smooth surface is desired.

Level 5 Finish

This is the highest level of drywall finish and is often used in areas with severe lighting conditions, such as in commercial spaces or high-end residential projects. It involves applying a skim coat of joint compound over the entire wall surface to achieve a uniform and perfectly smooth finish.

Orange Peel Finish

While not technically a tape and float finish, an orange peel finish is often applied after the initial taping and floating process. It involves spraying a texture onto the wall to create a slightly textured appearance that can hide imperfections.

Knockdown Finish

Similar to orange peel, a knockdown finish is a texture applied to the wall after the initial taping and floating. It is sprayed on and then "knocked down" with a trowel to create a textured, but not too pronounced, finish
